Getting error when trying to upload

When I try to upload, I get the below error:

avrdude: ser_open(): can’t open device “\.COM1”: Access is denied.

Hmm, that looks like some kind of Windows permissions problem with the serial port. Never heard of that before. Try looking in the arduino.cc forums http://forum.arduino.cc/

I wonder if it’s possibly a driver issue? When I connect the FTDI cable, is the driver for that all I need? Or do I need a separate driver to connect the board as well (thinking the Uno driver)?

You only need a driver for the FTDI device. Nothing else. Looks like a permissions problem of some kind.

hi , I have the solution for you, I am a computer 😉
In Windows go to your Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) and right click sure : USB serial port> properties.
you go to the ” Port Settings ” tab and then click on the “Advanced …” button and the box ” COM Port Number ” you choose “COM1″ and various tick ” serial device enumerator ” valid and you everything.
and now should work 😉

Dans Windows vas dans ton gestionnaire de périphériques > ports(COM et LPT) et clic droit sûr: USB serial port > propriétés.
tu vas dans l’onglet ” paramètres du port” puis clic sur le bouton “avancé…” et à la case “numéro du port COM” tu choisis “COM1” et dans divers coche “énumérateur de périphérique série” et tu valides tout.
et maintenant se devrait fonctionner 😉
